The Famous Beaches of Luquillo
Puerto Rico's most famous beaches are all located within a walk of our location. What makes the beaches so special is the amazing diversity offered at each of them.
La Pared: The beach out front is known locally as La Pared. This is a famous surfing beach in Puerto Rico, and provides great opportunity for surfing and boogie board enthusiasts as well as for beginners. Or you can fall asleep listening to the waves crashing on the beach!
Costa Azul: This beach can be found by walking two to three blocks to the left, and is very protected. This beach offers great swimming and even some very interesting Snorkeling!
Luquillo Balneario: This beautiful beach has been awarded Blue Flag distinction and can be found by walking 40 minutes or a short 5 minute drive! Awarded Blue Flag distinction, this public white sand beach is totally equipped with showers, restroom facilities, kiosks, lifeguards, and even a unique specialized handicapped beach access area! This has been many times rated as one of the best beaches on the island!
The Northeast Ecological Corridor: This beach to the right of our guest house past the Sandy Hills Condominiums, is all nature preserve. Visit rare birds that nest in this location, see the nests of the giant leatherback sea turtles, or just get a glimpse of the beautiful sunrise each morning in this natural paradise!
El Yunque Rain Forest
One of the best things about going to El Yunque is how accessible it is! When you check in, we will provide you with a detailed map and many informative tips. Equipped with that, you can drive up there about 10 minutes from our Location. Exploring El Yunque Caribbean National Rain Forest, Puerto Rico's premier attraction and the only tropical rain forest in the US National Forest System. Well maintained hiking trails, informative signs, breathtaking waterfalls, natural pools to swim in, lush forest, and lookout towers are all well administered by the US Forestry Service. You'll treasure forever the fabulous views from an elevation of 3,500 feet at the peak!
Entry into the forest is free of charge, but a visit to the Visitor's Center will cost you $3.00/person. Beautiful architecture there, lots of interactive information including a movie shown in a small theater and a very interesting gift shop.
This is best done on your own with your car. There are no taxis allowed, only tour buses and guides.

Phosphorescent Bays
Puerto Rico is blessed with 3 of the 5 phosphorescent bays in the world, and one is at our back door in Fajardo. It's best to go kayaking on a moonless night and experience the bioluminescence of millions of micro organisms. Fajardo kayak excursions can be booked thru the Inn.

Kayak Trip in Las Cabezas De San Juan (Fajardo)
Don't let your day end when the sun goes down!
Under the blanket of the night sky and the historical lighthouse of Fajardo, you can touch the waters that glow with Bioluminescence Organisms. The activity will start at sunset in the small fishing village of Las Croabas; here you will meet the friendly staff of Island Kayaking Adventures. They will be set-up with all needed gear which will include, Double kayaks, Backrest, Paddles with leashes, PFD's (Lifejackets) and two Kayak Guides with all needed safety equipment, lights and refreshments.
Afterwhich you will start off on a great journey paddling through a mangrove canal! Then experience a spectacular view in a radient bioluminescent lagoon!

See Monkey Island!!! Monkey Island, or Cayo Santiago as it is officially known, is a small cay off the southeastern coast of Puerto Rico. Basically, it is a free-ranging island monkey colony of rhesus monkeys, which is used primarily for behavior research. This colony was founded in 1938, making the Cayo Santiago rhesus monkey colony one of the oldest in the world! Snorkeling around the island offers a very unique experience finding giant starfish and conch shells! Plus the views are spectacular! And you get to see monkeys!
