Does "Green" mean that we will sacrificing comforts and amenities that we have grown accustomed?
Many people, when hearing "green" immediately associate this to mean living in a primitive environment. Here at Luquillo Sunrise Beach Inn, we have approached the subject of sustainability using the most sophisticated technology on the market today as well as modern construction methods guaranteeing a unique "green" experience!
How do you get the solar power?
The GREEN room is powered by 3 x 80 watt solar panels
Rainwater shower - is that safe?
Yes the rain water is collected and stored in a 400 gallon tank and is filtered prior to arrival in the showers and commode.
Is rain water drinkable?
Showers and service sinks use non-potable water. The bathroom sink is
filtered drinkable city water.
What happens if we run out of solar power?
The GREEN room is completely dual powered. In each room, right next to
the "GREEN" switches for lights and fans are "WHITE" switches to activate
normal household lights and brand new inverter technology Air Conditioners.
You will never be left in the dark! No matter how much of the solar power
you use!
What happens if we run out of solar hot water?
In this unlikely event, we have a backup in line instantaneous hot water
heater that operates automatically. You won't even feel the difference
during your hot shower!
This shower uses rainwater, solar hot water and a solar water pump.
The average persons uses 150 gallons of water each shower!
Using this shower for 3 minutes uses 10 minutes of solar power and only
12 gallons of water.
